چکیده

We report on high-power operation of an optically pumped external-cavity semiconductor disk laser. 13.2W optical output power at 970 nm has been achieved in a double-pass pump configuration. The laser Bragg mirror was designed to provide not only high reflectivity for the laser wavelenth but also for the pumping beam. A proper layer structure which supports standing-wave patterns with a node near the semiconductor surface reduces cavity losses and degradation. Compensation of the compressive strain, introduced by the six InGaAs quantum wells is achieved by GaAsP layers. The influence of the cavity geometry and the pump spot size on the laser beam quality and optical output power is investigated. An extention of the well-known equation is presented and compared to experimental results.

Bragg Mirror Design for Optically Pumped Semiconductor Disk Lasers Emitting at 920 nm

Bragg mirror designs for Optically Pumped Semiconductor Disk Lasers (OPSDLs) are presented. An optimization takes into account parameters such as reflectivity, thermal resistance, and strain. Calculations and first results are shown for devices with an emission wavelength of 920 nm. The wavelength is of particular interest since its second-harmonic yields 460 nm emission required for RGB displa...

Layer Design of Highly Efficient Optically Pumped Semiconductor Disk Lasers

Optically pumped semiconductor disk lasers (OPSDLs) with extended cavities are surfaceemitting laser devices which efficiently convert the low-beam-quality emission of a pump laser to a high-beam-quality circular non-astigmatic laser emission. Furthermore, the extended cavity can be utilized for intra-cavity second harmonic generation by insertion of nonlinear optical crystals. By that way, the...

Optically In-Well-Pumped Semiconductor Disk Laser With Low Quantum Defect

An in-well pumped InGaAs disk laser emitting at 984 nm is presented. The device is designed to eliminate major loss mechanisms attributed to heat generation in semiconductor disk lasers. An output power of close to 7W at room temperature is achieved by optical excitation with a fiber-coupled 940 nm diode laser. Strong cooling or the use of heat spreaders with high thermal conductivity is not ne...

Photoluminescence Spectroscopy on Optically Pumped Semiconductor Disk Lasers

Photoluminescence spectra from optically pumped semiconductor disk lasers are presented. A detailled discussion of the results is given as well as a description of the measurement setup and procedure. Spectra which have been measured under different detection angles show specific features which are attributed either to the intrinsic photoluminescence of the gain region or to the distortion whic...

Frequency Doubled High-Power Semiconductor Disk Lasers for Projection and Ion-Trapping Applications

We present optically pumped semiconductor disk lasers (OPSDLs) emitting in the 900– 1100 nm band which are frequency doubled to access the visible spectrum. In particular, we focus on presenting the design, fabrication, and specific characteristics. Fundamental outputs exceeding 25W and visible radiation with powers greater than 11W are achieved. The blue and green emission at wavelengths aroun...
